This sophisticated machine converts continuous reciprocating motion into rotary motion. It is an innovative mechanism that will lift heavy objects using less power. Leonardo Da Vinci (born in 1452, died in 1519) was undoubtedly one of the most brilliant people of the Renaissance and is widely regarded as one of the most talented people in history. He was not only an exceptionally talented painter, author of such masterpieces as "The Lady with an Ermine" or "The Last Supper", but also an extremely prolific inventor and innovator. One of his many inventive designs was a specific Leverage Crane, which used a ratchet mechanism and a rack and pinion mechanism. This crane was supposed to be able to lift materials of considerable mass, using a relatively small force acting on its mechanisms. The use of a ratchet mechanism also meant that the crane could only turn in one direction during rotation. It is worth adding that during the design of this device, Leonardo da Vinci proved to be a great expert on the principles of mechanics..
